JUNE 12 UPDATE: Details, details

The day dawned (well, what I saw of dawn, anyway, at 8:30 in the morning) with a clear blue sky, not too windy, and not too hot. A good day to venture up to the roof again, apparently.

Walt and Paavo nearly finished the last two rows of shingles on both the north and south sides before a squall shooed them inside in the late afternoon. Those shingles had been skipped during the main part of shingling because the safety fence was in the way of finishing them. Dave and Walt finished the last little bit before supper. One row of roof jacks is still intact on the south side for when they install the skylights, and there's still a small bit of edging work to do, so we still can't say the roof is completely finished. But it's closer all the time.

Walt took some nice pictures today:

Here's a nice photo looking east across the south roof. Everything looks lovely and green with all the rain we've been having.

Here's a similar shot along the north roof line. The last bit of shingling isn't done in this photo, but they finished it later. The tractor shed is in the background.

We had more interesting clouds this afternoon, though they all seemed to blow across the sky really quickly. We have just had one small rain shower (though it came with a lot of thunder) from this band of storms today, but there's a chance for more overnight.

There are now steps to get into the doorway! That makes work a little easier than having to clamber up or down each time. (And Walt noticed that with this big belly I wasn't likely to enter or exit at all gracefully without some stairs. Or, I was thinking, a hoist. Stairs are better.)

The last piece of railing was put up today, as was the one remaining roof support that they couldn't reach without the scaffolding. Now this space is ready for stairs -- and maybe eventually I can get up there and take a peek!
